Despite solidly competing most of her elements, Gabby Douglas heavily struggled on her dismount while competing on balance beam at the 2011 US Nationals.
The US gymnast made three attempts to dismount the apparatus.
In her first attempt, she performed a back handspring then stumbled backward causing her to fall off the beam.
As for her second attempt, she hesitated and stopped after the back handspring.
She successfully competed her dismount in her third attempt, two back handsprings (B) to a double back pike (D), which is worth 0.1 series bonus.
Attempt without performance of an element is a 0.3 deduction according to the 2022-2024 CoP.
Later that year, Douglas was selected to compete at the World championships where she won gold with the team and finished in fifth place on the uneven bars.
The following year, she became the first African American to win an Olympic all-around gold.
