Annamari Maaranen successfully competed a highly difficult  mount on balance beam at the 2005 European championships.

The Finnish gymnast mounted the apparatus with a half twist to back tuck, which was never added to the code of points.

Gymnasts have to successfully compete their original elements at certain international competitions in order to have it added to the code of points as well as have it named after them.

As per the 2022-2024 code of points, gymnasts can submit their original elements at an Olympic Games, a World championships, or an FIG competition.

Maaranen attempted to compete it at the 2006 World championships but suffered a fall.

The routine [2005 European championships] included the acrobatic version of the mount, which is rated an F.

In 2007, Maaranen qualified as an individual gymnast to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, making her the first female Finnish gymnast in 44 years to qualify to the Olympic Games.

However, she was unable to perform in Beijing due to an injury she suffered from earlier that year.

According to Researchgate.net, the 36 year old retired athlete now works as an Operational Psychologist for the United States Air Force.
