Oasport.it reported that Italian head coach Enrico Casella might pull out Alice D'Amato of the floor final in favor of Martina Maggio.

D'Amato qualified in eighth place to the floor final at the 2022 World championships, which will be held next Sunday.

While Maggio is second reserve.

If Brazilian gymnast Flavia Saraiva, who qualified in first place to the apparatus final, pulled out of the competition, Casella will have the chance to replace D'Amato with Maggio as Saraiva will be replaced by first reserve Shoko Miyata of Japan.

Saraiva suffered an injury in her right ankle on vault during the qualifications. She competed only on the uneven bars in team final and withdrew from the all around final. It is yet to be decided on whether the Brazilian athlete will be able to compete in the floor final.

The European champions failed to win a medal in the team competition as they finished in fifth place.

In the all around final, Maggio and D'Amato finished in ninth and tenth place respectively.

Floor exercise is the only chance for Italy to leave Liverpool with a medal, as none of the Italian gymnast qualified to the other three events.

It is worth mentioning that Italy lost two of their stars , Asia D'Amato and Angela Andreoli, to injuries before the World championships.
