Russian gymnast Angelina Simakova scored a zero on vault during the qualifications at the 2018 World championships.

Simakova competed a Rudi, which is a handspring forward on  stretched salto forward with 1½ twist (540°) off. The vault is rated a 5.4 in the current code of points. It is one of the competitive vaults in the event finals.

The Russian athlete landed on her knees and elbows. Since she failed to land feet first, she received a zero.

During the qualifications, teams are allowed to have four gymnasts compete on each apparatus. However, only the top three scores are counted towards the final qualification scores.

Hence, Simokova's vault score did not affect the Russian team's chances to qualify to the team final, where they won the silver medal.

This year, the 20 year old World medalist received a two year ban, which started last June, due to testing positive for furosemide.

Nevertheless, she is believed to be retired nowadays.
