Lilia Akhaimova, who was part of the Olympic ROC gold winning team in Tokyo, has announced her retirement from the sport.

National team head coach Valentina Rodionenko said that the Russian gymnast decided to retire due to a nagging back injury.

Akhaimova turned senior in 2013 but her first major international competition was the 2018 European championships where she won gold with her team.

The 25 year old athlete was also part of the 2018 and 2019 World silver medal winning Russian teams.

She is an Olympic and World vault finalist, as well as double World floor finalist. She also competed in the all around competition of the 2019 World championships where she finished in 22nd place.
