British gymnast Becky Downie announced on Twitter that she has ruptured her achilles tendon.

"Yesterday I ruptured my other achilles tendon," the 30 year old gymnast said. "There aren't many words for it right now but I've been here before and I know I can come back from anything if I put my mind to it."

Downie will most likely miss the upcoming European championships which will be held in mid August in Germany.

The British athlete also tweeted a video of herself training on the bars just two days before the injury with caption "In the meantime here is a little of where I was at literally 2 days ago 🙃 Just going to have to wait a little longer to show it."

Becky, who is an event specialist, competed on all four events for the first time in eight years at the 2022 English championships last March.

However, she withdrew from the bars final due to an illness she has been struggling with for several weeks before the championships.

Her last international competition was the 2021 World championships where she was the first and second reserve on balance beam and uneven bars respectively.

Downie is the 2019 World silver medalist and two time European champion on the uneven bars.

She represented Great Britain at the 2008 and 2016 Olympic Games.
