Russian gymnast Maria Paseka is set to coach the Chinese national team starting from August. She will be joined by her compatriot and 2010 World champion Tatiana Nabieva.
"Do I think about a career as a coach? Yes, I'm very interested. I want to pass on my experience to children and raise an Olympic champion," Paseka told Tass.ru.
The 2012 and 2016 Olympic vault medalist said that she initially wanted to spend two years there coaching the national team but will most likely spend only one year due to language barrier and cultural difference.
Last year, Paseka announced that she will make a one final push towards returning to elite competitive gymnastics as she deeply regrets giving up on making her country's Tokyo Olympic team.
Nevertheless, she told Russian media this week that she has been unable to return to the competitive sport.
"It’s very difficult, if I was 20-23 years old, then I would definitely be able to return, because it would be easier, and since I was 25 years old at that time, it was a little hard in the sense that my back started to hurt again, all joints, ankles," she told TASS.
"I couldn't even get out of bed because everything hurt while recovering from my back surgery. Anyway, I endured, went to the gym, but at some point I realized that, probably, my time had already passed and I was not mentally ready to return, because I was very tired. Probably, you should already take care of your life."
In addition to her Olympic medals, Paseka is double World and European champion on vault.
