Elisa Iorio would have made history at the 2021 World championships, if it wasn't for that error.

The Italian gymnast hit the low bar while swinging the high bar to perform her Ezhova bars transition.

Hitting the bar with feet receives a hefty deduction, a 0.5. Iorio got a score of 14.400.

Had she not committed that error, Iorio would have received a score of 14.900 which would have been enough to top the gold medalist Wei Xiaoyuan, who scored 14.733.

Instead, she finished in sixth place.

No Italian gymnast has ever won a gold medal on the uneven bars at a World championship.

The last gymnast to win a World medal on the apparatus was Vanessa Ferrari in 2006.

In her first senior year, Iorio helped Italy win the bronze medal at the 2019 World championships– the country's first World team medal since 1950.

The 19 year old gymnast was not selected to represent Italy at the 2020 Olympic Games as she was still not fully recovered from an ankle surgery she had the year before.

She recently underwent shoulder surgery.

Update: Iorio denied slamming the bars with her feet explaining that it was the sound of the vibrating bars hence she did not lose tenths.
