Russian head coach Valentina Rodionenko told reporters that Morinari Watanabe, president of the International Gymnastics Federation, told her that he cannot imagine a World championship without the Russian team.

Russian athletes and officials, including judges, have been banned from taking part in FIG competitions or FIG-sanctioned competitions from 7 March 2022 until further notice, following Russia's full scale invasion of Ukraine.

Rodioneko has also said that Watanabe has assured her that he will do everything possible for the Russians to compete at the upcoming World championships as soon as the war in Ukraine is over.

"We were in Qatar at the World Cup stage, the President of the International Gymnastics Federation Watanabe assured us that as soon as hostilities end, every effort will be made to let our team in. He does not see the World Cup without our team," said Rodionenko.

The 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be held in Liverpool, Great Britain on October 28 - November 6, 2022.
