Olympic Tokyo champion Nikita Nagornyy thanked the Russian Young Army Movement for attending and supporting him at the 2022 Russian championships.

"Friends, can you imagine the picture when you enter the competition hall and the whole "red" sector is rooting for you from the first seconds? I can't even imagine if I hadn't seen it with MY OWN EYES!" Nagornyy wrote on Telegram according to Google Translate.

"These cool guys came by surprise to support me with a whole arsenal of firecrackers! Both journalists and the organizing committee of the competitions themselves were even more surprised," he continued.

"And I advise every athlete to have their own powerful team, which will be involved in your overall victory in any competition with strength and spirit!"

"Members of the Yunarmiya, you are the best, I am glad that I can enlist the support of such cool guys at the Championship!"

The 25 year old gymnast has been the head of the Young Army Cadets National Movement, which aims at fostering “patriotic youth”, since December 2020.

German gymnastics club, TG Saar, has recently cut ties with the Russian gymnast over his Russia-Ukraine war stance.

Nagornyy has been very vocal about his support of the Russian army in their invasion of Ukraine.

A day after the Ukrainian invasion, he shared a post from the Young Army Movement about their work with children from Ukraine's separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

He has also offered his fans to forward their gifts to the Russian soldiers, who are part of the military invasion of Ukraine.

Earlier this month, Nagornyy along with compatriot and the reigning World all around champion Angelina Melnikova sought the annulment of the FIG ban on Russia over Ukraine.
