Russian Olympic champion gymnast Nikita Nagornyy offered his fans to forward their gifts to the Russian soldiers, who are part of the military invasion of Ukraine.

"If you want to support our military people [taking part] in the special operation, send packages to our headquarters and we will forward them," Nagorny said in a video he posted to his Instagram stories according Gymnovosti translation.

The video shows the Russian athlete taking part in the latest initiative of the Youth Army on his Instagram where children prepare gifts for the Russian soldiers who are part of the military aggression against Ukraine.

"We look forward to your support," he captioned the Instagram stories.

Russians have been forbidden from referring to the ongoing military campaign as a war or invasion, instead using the term “special operations.”

Nagorny is a member of the National Guard of Russia, the internal military force of the Russian Federation.

Since December 2020, he has been the head of the Young Army Cadets National Movement, which aims at fostering “patriotic youth”.

A day after the Ukrainian invasion, the 25 year old Russian athlete shared a post from the organization about their work with children from Ukraine's separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Nagorny was part of the gold winning ROC team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He is also three time World champion and eight time European champion.

He is married to Olympic silver medalist Russian gymnast Daria Spiridonova.

Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials, including judges, have been banned from taking part in FIG [International Gymnastics Federation] competitions or FIG-sanctioned competitions from 7 March 2022 until further notice in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which took place on Feb 24th.

Earlier this month, Russian gymnast Ivan Kuliak showed his support for his country's invasion of Ukraine while competing at the 2022 Doha World Cup by wearing the Russian pro war symbol Z.
