Russian former Olympic gymnast Svetlana Khorkina posted on her Instagram Story a photo of the letter Z, which is believed to be a symbol of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The photo included Russian text that read "A campaign for those who are not ashamed to be Russian. Let’s spread it," according to Gymnvosti translation.

Khorkina has been upfront about her support for the Russian military and government since the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Last week, she uploaded an Instagram post that shows her support to the Russian army, captioning it with "Happy holiday, our dear Defenders of the Fatherland! Health, strength to you is not earthly, stamina and all of us a peaceful sky above our heads!"

The retired gymnast is a vocal supporter of Russian president Vladimir Putin and is a member of his political party United Russia.

She served as a deputy for the Russian State Duma (Russian Parliament) from 2007 to 2011.

She holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Russian army.

Khorkina is married to Oleg Kochnev, who is a former general in Russia's Federal Security Service and works at Putin's administration. Together, they have a son, Ivan, born in October 2019.

Khorkina is regarded as one of the most successful female gymnasts of all time. She was the first gymnast to win three World all around titles which were in 1997, 2001, and 2003.

She is also the winner of the 1996 and 2000 Olympic uneven bars titles.

Fellow Russian gymnast Ivan Stretovich, who won gold and silver with his team at the 2019 World championships and 2016 Olympic Games respectively, expressed his support of the Russian invasion of Ukraine through his Instagram Story by displaying the symbol Z.

Stretovich recently competed at the Doha World cup, where he did not make any final.

Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials, including judges, have been banned from taking part in FIG competitions or FIG-sanctioned competitions from 7 March 2022 until further notice in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

  2. I wouldn't be proud to be a citizen of any nation that attacks another without any reason. My loyalty is first to God, then my family and then my country. But even if my country was first place, still, even so, I could not, will not, approve the killing of innocent civilians.

  3. When she competed in the Olympics ( I do not remember the year and the city), she said: “ I came here to take what is mine.” And she won nothing. She is an arrogant idiot.
