Jordan Chiles, who was part of the US Olympic silver medal-winning team in Tokyo, opened up to Taraji P. Henson and cohost Tracie Jade about the verbal abuse and body-shaming she endured by a former coach.

"I had a coach verbally abusing me," Chiles said. "She called me fat, she said I look like a doughnut to the littlest things of people asking me, 'Oh, you're eating this today?' And it's like, 'Well, I'm not eating because you just triggered my brain."

"It was really hard on me because I was just like 'this is ridiculous like what have I put myself through."

The American gymnast said that the abuse took a huge toll on her mental health.

"I didn't know who I was, I was trying to be other people that I wasn't."

Chiles said that she thought about quitting the sport multiple times. She would write notes on the refrigerator that reads "I am done" before going to school, but she would still go to practice on the same day.

The 20-year-old gymnast further revealed Popsugar that if she wasn't under 110 pounds, she would be called fat by her former coach.

As a result, she stopped stepping on scales "because it's just awful". While it took a while to mend her relationship with food, she still struggles with her relationship with food to this day.

In 2019, it was revealed that Chiles had switched gyms, leaving Naydenov Gymnastics in her hometown of Vancouver, Washington and moving to Spring, Texas to train at World Champions Centre, the same gym at which Simone Biles trains.

Chiles turned senior in 2017, where she was named an alternate for the US Worlds team. She was not selected to compete at the 2018 and 2019 World teams.

She is currently on Simone Biles' Gold Over America Tour. She will later join the Bruins gymnastics team in December.
