Today was Mai Murakami's last day in her gymnastics career which she ended on a very high note.

She became a double World champion on floor exercise and grabbed a bronze on balance beam at the 2021 World Championship, which was held in her home country.

Murakami is the 2017 World champion on floor exercise. She is also the 2018 World all-around silver medalist and floor exercise bronze medalist.

"I'm retiring today," Murakami said. "I think at the very end I was able to grasp that moving moment in the form of a gold medal."

Murakami, who turned senior in 2012, was part of the 2016 Rio and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Japanese teams.

She earned a bronze medal on floor exercise in Tokyo making her the first female Japanese gymnast to win an individual medal at the Olympics.
