Yesterday at the all-around competition of the 2021 World championships, Russian gymnast Angelina Melnikova became the first non US gymnast to claim a World all-around title since her compatriot Aliya Mustafina. However, this was not the only interesting fact about this competion.
Leanne Wong was the only gymnast at the competition to score above 14 on floor exercise
US Leanne Wong, who won the silver medal at the all around competition, had the highest score on floor exercise. She scored 14.033. She was also the only gymnast to score 14 or above on the event at yesterday's final.
Kayla Dicello received the highest score on a single apparatus at the entire competition
The bronze medalist, Kayla Dicello of the US, scored 14.600 on vault which was the highest score received on any of the four apparatus.
Dicello competed a double-twisting Yurchenko, which was the same vault Wong and Melnikova performed. They received 14.341 and 14.600 respectively.
Vladislava Urazova could have easily won bronze
Melnikova's teammate, Vladislava Urazova, could have easily won a bronze medal if it weren't for her fall on the balance beam. Without the fall, Urazova would have scored 54.598 which was enough for her to knock Dicello out of her third place.
Just like at Tokyo Olympics, Urazova finished in fourth place.
The balance beam was the only event on which no one scored 14 or above.
Vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise, all had a gymnast or more score 14 or above on.
Seven gymnasts scored above 14 on vault: RGF Angelina Melnikova, US Leanne Wong and Kayla DiCello, Italy's Alice and Asia D'Amato, France's Carolann Heduit, and Great Britain's Georgia-Mae Fenton.
Three gymnasts scored above 14 on uneven bars: RGF Angelina Melnikova and Vladislava Urazova, and US Leanne Wong.
Only one gymnast scored above 14 on floor exercise: US Leanne Wong.
Naomi Visser had the highest All-Around placement for a Dutch gymnast at a World championship
By finishing in fifth place, Naomi Visser had the highest World all around placement for a Dutch gymnast. She had a total score of 52.832.
