Wei Xiaoyuan, who was an alternate to the Chinese Tokyo Olympic team, claimed the World title today on the uneven bars.
At a 6.5 D score, the Chinese gymnast had the highest difficulty rating at the apparatus final. She had a total score of 14.733.
Rebeca Andrade, who earlier won gold on vault at the championship, grabbed silver with a score of 14.633.
This is the first World medal on the uneven bars for a Brazilian gymnast.
Wei's teammate, Luo Rui, received the same score as Andrade's, but since the Brazilian gymnast had a higher E score, Rui took the bronze.
World all-around champion RGF Angelina Melnikova finished in fourth place with a score of 14.533.
Her teammate Vladislava Urazova came in seventh place.
Zsofia Kovacs of Hungary and Elisa Iorio of Italy finished in fifth and sixth place respectively. While Filipa Martins of Portugal finished last.
Martins is the first Portuguese gymnast to qualify for a World final.
No gymnast fell during that final.
