Shallon Olsen, who finished in seventh place in vault final, took to Instagram to express her disappointment with the results.
"Absolutely gutted about vault finals… not how I had envisioned my second Olympics to go and not the result I wanted either," the Canadian gymnast wrote.
"This was my ONLY shot at getting a medal for my country, and I feel like I let myself down in a lot of ways. I’ve been working for this moment my entire life, just to have it all come crashing down into little ittie bittie pieces."
"I sacrificed so much to be here, just to have it slap me in the face. It wasn’t the cleanest vaults I had done, but I am somewhat proud of myself for competing on the world stage again despite COVID and everything else in between."
"I’m thankful for my teammates, coaches and support staff for doing everything in their power to keep me calm and healthy throughout these Games and their support doesn’t go unnoticed."
"These Games were going to be my last, but after that I’m not okay. Thus, I have left the games empty handed. It’s difficult to be perfect when you’re competing against the best."
"This is not how I wanted my Olympic experience to end, and I’m sure you all can see that. Thank you all for your love and support it really does mean the world to me🤍 Thank you Japan for all the memories. Shallon, out✌🏻"
The 21 year old gymnast represented her country at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. There, she finished last on vault during the event finals.
Her biggest success came at the 2018 World championships where she claimed the silver medal behind US Simone Biles.
She was a vault finalist at the 2017 and 2019 World championships, where she finished seventh and fourth respectively.
