The American team had a rough day at the qualification yesterday.

For the first time in eleven years, the US failed to finish in first place at the qualification in a major international competition.

The US team was knocked out by the Russians by a little over a point.

Simone Biles went out of bounds on vault and floor exercise costing her 0.3 penalty on both events. On the balance beam, she took three steps to back on her full in dismount.

Despite that, Biles managed to qualify to all six finals. She is the first gymnast to achieve this feat since the 1992 Olympics.

Romania's Lavinia Miloșovici and US Shannon Miller qualified in every single final at the Barcelona Olympics.

“It wasn’t an easy day or my best but I got through it,” the four time Olympic champion wrote on Instagram. “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times.”

“ I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but damn sometimes it’s hard,” she continues. “hahaha! The olympics is no joke! BUT I’m happy my family was able to be with me virtually they mean the world to me!”

The next competition will be the team final tomorrow where the US team are expected to defend their Olympic title.
