At the 2021 European championships qualifications, Jessica Gadirova had a very scary fall on balance beam.

The British gymnast had one of her feet slipped on the second element of her acrobatic combination series.

She intended to do a back handspring (B) to layout step out (C) to layout step out (C).

Jessica took some time to gather herself before resuming her routine.

A gymnast has ten seconds to return to the apparatus after falling. If exceeded, she will receive a deduction of 0.3.

A balance beam routine should not exceed 90 seconds. However, the duration of the fall is timed separately; it is not calculated in the total time of the exercise.

Jessica took more than 10 seconds to remount the beam.

The 16 year old gymnast went on to shine in the finals, by winning three medals. She won gold on floor exercise, silver on vault, and bronze in the all around.
