On Wednesday night Olympic champion Simone Biles won two prestigious Excellence in Sports Yearly (ESPY) Awards for her numerous Olympic successes.

Biles won both best female U.S. Olympic athlete and best female athlete, beating such powerhouse nominees as swimmer Katie Ledecky.

‘Ever since Rio, it has been an amazing year, and the best part of all has been meeting all of the young people who look up to all the athletes in this room’, Biles said in her acceptance speech. ‘It is an incredible honour and responsibility of being a role model. And I just want to thank you all for believing in me, it means the world to me!’

Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps won best record-breaking performance for extending his records for most Olympic medals (28) and gold medals (23). Jamaica’s runner Usain Bolt won best international athlete, while snowboarding stars Mark McMorris and Anna Gasser won best action sports athlete awards.

Attending the ceremony were also Simone Biles’ teammates from Rio, the Final Five: Aly Raisman, Gabby Douglas, Madison Kocian and Laurie Hernandez.
