Catalina Ponor, who was the sole gymnast representing Romania at Rio Olympics, performed a solid routine on balance beam in the qualification.

She does a switch ring (E) and a switch leap (C) to Omelianchik (D), worth 0.1 connection bonus. She successfully connects her onodi (D) to forward aerial (A) to back handspring (B) to back layout (E). The combination is worth 0.2 connection bonus and 0.1 series bonus under 2013-2016 CoP.

Her biggest mistakes was wobbling after her switch leap half (D). Catalina scored a 14.900 qualifying herself to the event finals.

Unfortunately, she failed to deliver in the event finals. She had lots of big wobbles and missed connections. She finished in a disappointing 7th place.

A 14.900 would have been enough for her to make the podium. US Simone Biles, who won the bronze medal, scored 14.733.

For the first time since 1972, Romania failed to bring home an Olympic medal in women's gymnastics.
