The October US National Training Camp came to an end on 1 November at
the Karolyi’s Ranch in Huntsville, Texas.
The gymnasts verified one third of their uneven bars and balance beam
routine, as well as their physical abilities. In the physical ability test, Gabby Perea (Geneva, Ill./Legacy Elite),
Maile O’Keefe (Las Vegas/Salcianu
Elite), and Emily Schild (Huntersville,
N.C./Everest) took the first three spots.
The Camp was led by the new National Team coordinator, Olympic champion
Valeri Liukin. At the end of the camp, Liukin said he feels very positive about
the future of USA Gymnastics. ‘I am very pleased with the progress displayed
during this camp,’ Liukin said. ‘We have a solid foundation as the year begins
to wind down, and we look toward the beginning of a new Olympic cycle in 2017.’
The next Camp, the last in 2016, is scheduled for 30 November to 4
December.
The athletes are expected to compete early next year in the World Cup
series, including the American Cup (4 March 2017), as well as the Jesolo Trophy
in Italy (late March).
