In 2009, Ariella Kaeslin made history for her country, Switzerland. She became the first female Swiss gymnast to win a gold medal at European championships.
She won gold on her strongest event, the vault. She performed a handspring forward layout with one and a half twist as her first vault and one and a half twisting Yurchenko as her second.
The silver medal went to Russia's Yulia Berger while Ukraine's Anna Kalashnyk won the bronze medal.
At the same championships, she won a bronze medal in the all around becoming the first female or male Swiss gymnast to win an all around European medal since 1957.
A few months later, she made another history. She won Switzerland's first World medal in women's artistic gymnastics which was a silver on vault.
Kaeslin represented her country at 2008 Olympic games where she qualified to vault and all around final.
