At the last Russian championships, Aliya Mustafina took bronze on uneven bars and balance beam earning a spot on her country's European Team. She competed with watered down routines.

Mustafina's coach Sergei Starkin revealed that Aliya Mustafina is training a much more difficult bars routine than the one she showed at the Russian championships, for the Rio Olympic Games.

Last year, the reigning Olympic bars champion missed the European and World championships. In November, she had underwent a surgery on an injured meniscus.

Mustafina's last major international competition was Baku Games where she won three gold medals and a silver.
