Former Soviet and Belarus Olympic gymnast Svetlana Boginskaya responded to Tatiana Gutsu's rape allegation which the latter posted on Facebook.

Gutsu, who won the all around Olympic medal in 1992, alleged that legendary Soviet gymnast Vitaly Scherbo raped her during Stuttgart Cup which took place in 1991.

She also accused former Olympic Soviet gymnast Rustam Sharipov and teammate Tatiana Toropova of knowing about the rape incident and turning a blind eye.

Boginskaya defended Sharipov, whom she called a good friend, stressing that he would never do what Tatiana claimed.

"I am a Woman who will stand up for people i know and care about," Boginskaya wrote. "One of the people in Tatiana's story who i personally know for 28-29 years is Rustam Sharipov who i been with in many trips as a gymnast, many shows after Olympics, who personally stood up not only for me but many others who need it help in any situation."

While she started her response with expressing sympathy to her, she ended it with "I just want to let others know that HE would NEVER stay and do nothing in situation like this".

The 1988 Olympic vault champion has also added that the situation is hard and that she is trying to get the whole picture.

Boginskaya competed along side Gutsu at 1991 World championships and 1992 Olympic Games.

Rustam Sharipov competed at 1992 and 1996 Olympics where he won three medals, including two golds.

Sharipov resides in the USA at the Ohio State University
