Biles and Iordache share a publicized friendship. They have competed against each other at 2013, 2014 and 2015 World championships. They made the podium together at floor exercise final in 2013 and 2014 and at the all around final in 2014 and 2015. Biles was the gold medalist in all four finals while Iordache was the silver medalist on floor and in the all around in 2014, and the bronze medalist on floor in 2013 and in the all round in 2015.

Charlie Fellows, British gymnast, tweeted "I think the whole gymnastics World is heartbroken tonight" while tagging Iordache.

Iordache suffered a complete Achilles torn while warming up on floor exercise just before the qualification which led to her withdrawal of the competition.
