Italy's Martina Maggio announced yesterday that her preparation for the upcoming World championships in Montreal, Canada in October is over, due to a knee injury.

Maggio injured her knee while training floor, and will take some time off to allow a full recovery. The injury ends her 2017 season, which included not only a possible spot on Italy's World championships team, but also two Italian national competitions, one Serie A meet and the Assoluti.

Martina Maggio is a first-year senior. She made a name for herself last year, when she won a gold medal on vault at the junior European championships in Bern, Switzerland, with a respectable score of 14.449.

Maggio is not the only big name who will miss the World championships this year. European champion sisters Becky and Ellie Downie from Great Britain are also going to sit out the competition while recovering from their respective injuries.

The 2017 World championships are taking place on 2-8 October 2017 in Montreal, Canada.

We wish Martina a speedy recovery!
