U.S. Jazmyn Foberg has put an end to her elite gymnastics career and will join the University of Florida gymnastics team in September 2017. Foberg announced her decision on Wednesday, after signing her national letter of intent that same morning. She was originally scheduled to start university in September 2018, but took the opportunity to start one year early.

Jazmyn Foberg, who trains at MG Elite with Maggie Haney, who also coached Laurie Hernandez to Olympic gold in Rio, had a brilliant junior career. She is the 2014 U.S. junior all around champion and the 2015 silver medallist. In 2016 she turned senior, but her season was marred by an ankle injury, which prevented her from being on top form, and Foberg withdrew from the P&G championships, the qualifying meet to the Olympic Trials, just weeks before it took place. Back then she wrote on Instagram that she would come back strong in 2017, but she has now taken the decision to pursue her studies, as well as gymnastics career, at Florida.

Florida’s head coach Jenny Rowland said in a statement that she is very excited to welcome Jazmyn Foberg to Florida next year, the Gators reports: ‘Jazzy is an exciting, talented athlete who will make an immediate impact for the Gators’, Rowland argued. ‘ Her success as an international athlete, power, confidence and consistency will be a huge asset in her collegiate career.  I have no doubt that she will become a fan favorite of the Gator Nation for years to come!’

Jazmyn Foberg will be joined by level-10 gymnast Nicole Webb, as the two incoming freshmen for Florida next fall. Florida finished third in the NCAA Super-Six final a couple of weeks ago, and will hope to improve its ranking next year.

Congratulations and good luck at Florida, Jazzy!
