Russia’s Viktoria Komova is currently training, but she will most likely miss the upcoming World championships in Montreal, Canada, next October, her father said, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

Komova is the 2012 Olympic all around silver medallist and a two-time world champion on the uneven bars. After the Olympics, Komova went back training, but her 2013-2016 quad was marred by persistent injuries and serious illnesses, including meningitis. Komova came back to competition in 2015, and competed at the World championships in Glasgow. There, she became a world champion on the uneven bars in the first ever four-gymnast tie for gold.

Komova was then expected to compete at the Olympic Games in Rio the following summer, but in early 2016 she announced her decision to stop training for the Olympics, due to persistent back pain.

Komova is still recovering from her back injury, her father said, and this is why she is taking her comeback slowly and her Worlds participation seems unlikely.
