Guatemala's Ana Sofia Gomez has announced her retirement from the sport of gymnastics during a press conference.

Gomez, who broke down in tears while announcing the news, said that the reason of her retirement was that she felt it is time for her to move on to coaching.

The now retired gymnast has competed at 2012 and 2016 Olympics. In London, she qualified to the all around final in sixteenth place and finished in twenty second place while in Rio, she did not advance to any final.

Gomez is the 2011 Pan American Games champion on balance beam. She was also the all around silver medalist at the same event. At 2015 Pan American Games, she won a bronze medal on floor exercise.

She was the flagbearer for Guatemala during the Parade of Nations in Rio.
