Good news from Russia. Gymnast Aliya Mustafina will become a mother this summer.

According to, Russian former wrestler and Aliya's father Farhat Mustafin announced that his daughter is pregnant and her due date is in July and that she is more than ready to become a mother.

Last November, Mustafina tied the knot with boyfriend bobsleigh champion Alexey Zaitsev in a small and private ceremony. According to the article, the lovebirds met in November 2015 while receiving treatments for their injuries.

The Russian gymnast has previously announced several times that she is eyeing the upcoming Tokyo Olympics but first she needs to take a two year break.

Coming back to elite gymnastics after motherhood is no strange thing. Uzbekistan's Oksana Chusovitina is one of the prominent examples of gymnasts who resumed their elite gymnastics career after motherhood.

Mustafina is one of the most successful Russian gymnasts, having won seven Olympic medals, eleven World medals and twelve European medals.

Her former teammate Ksenia Semenova who is two time World champion is also expecting a child with her husband Denis Ablyazin who is a five time Olympic medalist.
