The 2017 AT&T American Cup is taking place in Newark, New Jersey on 4 March and the list of participants is finally here!
The big news is that representing the United States will be Olympic alternate Ragan Smith.
The international field is also packed with big names and Olympians.
Here is the complete list:
Elsabeth Black (Canada). Black was third at the American Cup last year. She also finished fifth in the all around at the Rio Olympics last summer, the highest ever placement for Canada.
Xie Yufen (China). Xie was China’s 2015 World Championships alternate.
Melanie De Jesus dos Santos (France). De Jesus dos Santos came back strong in late 2016 after tearing her ACL a year before.
Rebecca Tunney (Great Britain). The youngest member of Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics, Tunney came back to gymnastics in 2016 after two years out with injury.
Kim Bui (Germany). Bui is a two-time Olympian. This summer in Rio, she helped her team finish sixth in the team competition. She is also the 2011 European bronze medallist on the uneven bars.
Asuka Teramoto (Japan). Teramoto was a member of the 2016 Olympic team, which finished fourth in the team competition, an historic result for Japan.
Eythora Thorsdottir (Netherlands). Thorsdottir is the world’s most elegant elite gymnast. This summer in Rio she placed ninth in the all around, the highest ever placement for a Dutch gymnast. She is currently training an Amanar on vault.
Ragan Smith (USA). Smith turned senior in 2016 and won gold with the team and on balance beam at the Pacific Rims last year. She is the only 2016 Olympian who is still currently training elite.
The United States, as host nation, have the right to name a second gymnast, but the name has not been revealed yet.
