The event finals of the first FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup series competition took place in Cottbus, Germany, on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November 2016.

Hungary’s Olympian Zsofia Kovacs won both the uneven bars and balance beam titles, with a score of 14.133 and 13.933 respectively. Kovacs also won bronze on vault with an overall score of 13.866. Kovacs is Hungary’s most promising gymnast, and these competitions will be helpful to build both her skills and confidence for the next quad.

An excellent performance was also delivered by the other Hungarian in the field, Dorina Boeczoego, who was second on vault (13.899) and bars (13.233), and third on beam (13.066). Boeczoego was penalised by her very low difficulty scores, but compensated with the best execution scores both on bars and beam.

Australia’s Olympian Emily Little won the vault title with a combined score of 14.299, the only gymnast to score over 14 on vault, as well as the only one to present a double-twisting Yurchenko. Little also got bronze on floor (13.533).

The floor title was won by Germany’s first-year senior Carina Kroell (13.700), ahead of her teammate Leah Griesser (13.633) and Little.

Ukraine’s Angelina Kysla was third on bars (12.966).

Even though the level of competition was not particularly high, these World Cup series are useful for less experienced gymnasts to gain experience on the international scene, as well as for viewers to come to know less renowned gymnasts.
