As Komova’s first big test in a huge meet, Tan Sixin amazed the gymternet in the first Junior Summer Olympics ever, heating up the arena with back to back solid performances on all apparatus, which earned her two golds, on beam and floor.

With soulful, round eyes and lyrical body movements, Tan Sixin was an expressive gymnast. Anyone who watches her will definitely fall for her high layout on beam, the great extensions on her lovely switched ring leap, and elegance and poise from her body to the tip of her fingers

Having enjoyed a successful junior career, Tan Sixin’s senior days were on a roller coaster. Following an unsatisfactory Nationals, Tan Sixin’s condition worsened in the 2011 World Championships. Failing to make any finals and having a meltdown during Team Finals, the sinking of the promising Tan Sixin was one of the biggest shocks of the 2011 Worlds. As she struggled to regain her composure in the following season, it was not surprising that she did not appear in Team China’s WAG list.

Yet as ironic as it sounds, things got better after she missed the Olympics. She medaled in most of her assignments in 2013, and in the 2014 Nationals when she competed for her last time, she successfully performed her 2010 difficulty on beam.

Often there are such gymnasts, who have come so close to glory when things fall apart when it matters. However, this does not shed any credit off them. Tan Sixin’s beautiful presence in gymnastics is widely appreciated by the gymternet, and her legacy will be carried on as her rival, Viktoria Komova, continued their quest of ultimate glory.

Tan Sixin is now an aspiring judge with hopes of studying overseas. Certainly it will not be long until we see her gracing the judging panel as she had graced the beam and the floor.
