As the Romanian WAG team are enjoying their time in a seaside training camp, ProSport, one of the major Romanian sport newspapers, had the chance to catch up with Andreea Iridon, one of the most promising gymnast of the new generation.

Iridon spoke about her experience in Baku, her upgrading plans and thoughts for the future.

Andreea admits that she has to focus more in order to overcome her nerves during important competitions. The medals from Baku motivated her to work harder, and while she had a fall during bars final, she managed to hit her beam because it is her favorite event.

“From Baku I have many beautiful memories, that experience motivated me more to achieve a personal goal. But I also realize that I still have to work on managing my nerves, I have to learn to focus more. The medals that I won, gave me more confidence and strength, and they are motivating me to work harder in the future.”

“After the fall on bars I told myself that the hard part has passed and that it could have been worse and that from now on I have nothing to lose. I kept telling myself that I have to remain focused in order to execute a good beam routine. More than that, beam is always easy for me because it’s my favorite event.”

As for the future, Andreea hopes that she will compete in the upcoming World Championships, as the competition for a spot in the team is strong. To achieve her goal, Andreea stated that she is currently training on upgrading her routine.

“I didn’t have time to celebrate my medals from Baku. For now the most important thing is training for Worlds, after that I will have plenty of time. I hope that I compete at Worlds. I’m now training in order to make the team and therefore to help the team in reaching the podium. Of course, our major objective remains the qualification for the Olympics and I wish to be in that team in Glasgow.”

“The competition for the team is strong. Every gymnast wants to earn a spot on the team, but I believe that this motivates us further. We are training every day, we try to execute our elements and our routines better and better and coaches will choose who’s in shape. I am training new elements on four apparatuses. If I want to be in team, I must have high difficulty.”

In the end Andreea revealed what is her dream. And that is an Olympic medal.

“I want a medal at the Olympics. I believe that this is the most beautiful outcome that an athlete can achieve in their career”
